Slaughter & May
Slaughter and May are raising money for Bags of Taste to combat food poverty across London and the UK
Slaughter and May, in conjunction with its DIVERSE network has produced a cookbook to raise money for Bags of Taste. The Cookbook brings together a number of recipes showing off the diverse range of culinary and cultural influences at the firm.
We have launched the cookbook during Black History Month to raise awareness that in the UK, black, Asian and minority ethnic people are more likely to experience poverty and food insecurity. Londoners of black ethnic heritage are over two and a half times more likely to have needed the services of a food bank.
Food insecurity is an increasing problem across London and the UK and we want this Cookbook to help tackle it, by raising money for Bags of Taste.
Bags of Taste is a life changing intervention that gets people in poverty to change the way they cook, shop and eat forever. We understand the reasons why people make the poor food choices they do – and so we can support them to do better. By dealing with the practical barriers that people face, like whether they have the right equipment or know where to buy the ingredients they need at an affordable price, we give them the head space to make a start on improving their lives. And once they see the benefits, they keep on with it! One year on, people say that the impact is even more than it was at the end of our course.
We work with some of the most vulnerable adults in the UK. This is challenging work and people need a lot of encouragement and support to change. Please support our work and help us to change more people’s lives, forever.
Why not hear about our results? Here’s an interview with an ex-participant, Ken, who is a recovering alcoholic, about how Bags of Taste and cooking for himself has changed his life.
