Conversation Starters (for Quiet Days)

Back to Additional Resources

Sometimes, groups can go a bit quiet or participants might need a little nudge to start chatting again. When this happens, don’t worry! We’ve put together some fun questions and a few light-hearted food related jokes and memes —not to pressure anyone about cooking, but to gently get everyone back on track and spark some friendly conversation.

Here are some questions you can ask:

  • What’s the most memorable dish you’ve ever eaten

  • What’s something you never liked as a kid but love now?

  • What’s the best food smell?

  • What’s one cooking tip you wish you’d learned earlier?

  • What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

  • Have you ever had any cooking disasters?  What can you learn from them? (being a good cook comes from experience, and learning from failures!)

Feel free to try these out next time things get a bit quiet—you might be surprised how much great conversation can come from just one question!
